Take 2 or 3 or 4 . . .

Episode two of Straight Up Entertainment News (spring semester)

Many times in news, things don't go according to the plan.

Sometimes sources fall through in print journalism or
the dreadful wardrobe malfunction occurs in broadcast.

These are both problems that a journalist cannot predict,
but will inevitably happen at some point.

Technical difficulties are another situation many televisions shows run into.
They come out of no where, they stay for as long as they please,
and they're completely and utterly frustrating.

But I'm not here to talk about technical difficulties as the downfall of broadcast news.

I'm here to talk about ways to deal with it,
and also give you a little behind-the-scenes look at Straight Up.

Emily Evans and I hosting Straight Up Entertainment News.

When it comes to technical difficulties, there isn't much you can do,
especially if your technologically challenged.

This view of Emily and I is called a two-shot. In this shot, we must have our scripts and chats memorized.
Usually the intro, outro, and chats in-between are all filmed in this kind of shot.

Above: Jazmine Keels and I pose for the paparazzi AKA Jazmine's iPhone.

Jazmine is my diva-licious friend who does the fashion segment
on Straight Up entitled Fashion Fix.

This is David Thompson, the director of Straight Up, giving cues and getting money.
(There's actually no money involved. Straight Up is all student run,
but David should get paid for all the work he does!)
Tanya Parker, Straight Up's producer, helps David with all of the behind-the-scenes
fun, and if we didn't have her, we wouldn't have a show.
So if we had the money, we'd throw some in for her too!
You can see each camera's view.

You're probably thinking
"she hasn't given any tips on dealing with technical difficulties yet".

And that's because there's only one tip for dealing with these problems:
KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE!

If there's nothing you can do to fix the problem, the best thing to do is bring a smile to the situation and endure what every past, current, or future broadcaster has to deal with.

When you stay positive, everyone else on set will keep their spirits up too!
And that is what makes for a high energy show,
which is the goal for any entertainment television show!
